Diaxion provide a number of recurring and on-demand database services that can be tailored to suit your needs, and include:

Remote Heath Checks

Remote heath checks run scheduled examinations of your databases to review your backups, scheduled jobs, database and server configuration and security, currency of statistics, maintenance of capacity planning information, and, especially, your database error/alert logs.

These flexible checks can run at intervals of 10 minutes, once a day, to once a week or monthly, depending on your requirements. Diaxion reviews the health check and notifies you of any current or predicted problems that may require your attention.

DBA / mentoring / training

Diaxion has tailored DBA/mentoring services to meet your unique business IT needs. We can provide casual DBA resources as required or alternatively, on-site mentoring/training to assist your internal IT administrators.

Daixion’s DBA’s will work with your staff to understand your database architecture and the daily operations, in order to produce a thorough audit report. This report may suggest improvements in your database setup, skill sets, efficiencies in day-to-day operations and possibly, recommend a mentoring plan.

A mentoring plan can vary from suggesting best practices to improvements in daily tasks and infrastructure. It can also help identify areas where your team’s skill set might be enhanced or further improved, in which case, Diaxion’s DBA’s can provide assistance and training for a few days a week over a period of time, to update your team’s knowledge base.

Performance tuning

Diaxion employs various methods and tools to assist in identifying and fixing performance problems. These methods and tools include:

  • scheduled SQL profiler traces;
  • interactive profiling for current repeatable problems;
  • analysis of performance monitor results;
  • analysis of captured SQL statistics; and
  • examination of currently active processes and locking / blocking.

Outcomes may be recommendations for creation/modification and removal of indexes, or changes to stored procedures and queries, or possibly more regular maintenance of volatile tables, such as daily update of statistics and/or selective table reorganisations.

Backfill/on-demand resources

Diaxion can provide highly experienced DBA resources to backfill or be available when required (on-demand).

These resources provide up-to-date knowledge of your site to assist during busy periods and/or to cover any short term staff shortage or staff on leave. Diaxon ensures that at least two Diaxion resources are knowledgeable of the site to ensure serviceability of your needs.

In order to provide this service, Diaxion funds an initial site familiarisation effort during which our professional staff are on-site in order to gain an in-depth familiarisation and knowledge of your site architecture, database, work practices and to create Diaxion internal documentation.

Capacity planning

Unlike some service providers, Diaxion’s capacity planning services doesn’t just look at your database; we analyse your complete IT environment.

Diaxion ensures that all appropriate and necessary measurements are collected in order to identify a capacity baseline. In combination with the identified capacity baseline, we work with your business to fully understand your future growth plans, and to also establish the appropriate capacity to meet those requirements.

Disaster recovery

Diaxion is experienced in assessing and designing disaster recovery solutions to suit every unique and individual needs.

For SQL Server standby server maintenance, Diaxion has experience in implementing log shipping for SQL 2000 - 2008 Enterprise Edition – using the out-of-the-box log shipping suite, or providing custom log shipping under SQL 7.0 or non-Enterprise SQL 2000 – 2008 editions. Diaxion is also experienced in setting up highly available SQL systems on Microsoft clusters.

For Oracle, Diaxion has experience in solutions that include: RAC, standby databases, Oracle clustering, replication and disk mirroring.
