Major Food wholesaler – Data Centre Migration
Diaxion provided a senior consultant team to deliver a Data Centre migration project for a major food wholesaler. Our customer required a team of experienced consultants that could deliver the DC design and migration of their Compute and storage platforms to the new facility. All workloads in the X86 environment were successfully migrated on budget and ahead of schedule. This included Citrix, messaging, records management, financial and operational systems amongst many others. The transformation included the design and migration from two legacy storage platforms to a contemporary AFA Pure Storage environment. Diaxion assisted the project team to manage the business engagement phases to ensure that roles and responsibilities for each service migration were clear and that the business owners and users of the services were fully aware of and engaged for each service migration.
The customer leveraged Diaxion’s experience, broad skills and business aware consultants to deliver the change on budget and ahead of schedule. The successful result allowed the customer to retain the team for the remaining duration to address other transformation activities immediately following the DC migration.
Global Managed Services Provider- TSm and Avamar
Diaxion was recently engaged by a major managed services provider to assist their team with the BAU operation of a backup service to one of Australia’s leading financial institutions. Our senior consultants work within the service providers team to identify failed cycles, remediate the issue, re-execute the backup and report on and prove that the data has been backed up according to the customer’s data protection policies. This role is critical to the success of the vendor as a failure to both remediate the issue and prove resolution, can put the customer at great risk due to a failure to recover important business information and prove to regulators that data recovery requirements are being met. Along with providing remediation on issues like data retention and efficient scheduling, our consultant is working closely with the junior members of the team to build out their knowledge of a complex environment and how to deal with associated business issues and user groups
We were originally involved in the design and implementation of the backup service using TSM, Avamar and Data Domain. With Diaxion’s intimate knowledge of the environment and the daily tasks required, our consultant was able to hit the ground running and heavily reduce the on boarding process normally associated with this type of project.
Large Health care provider – Application assessment
Diaxion was invited by a large health care provider to conduct a detailed discovery and workload analysis of the organisation’s ageing infrastructure. The provider was conducting a multi-year rationalisation and consolidation program for it’s expiring data centre contracts and hardware which had reached the end of its life. The business was using the program of work to also streamline service delivery and produce more efficient outcomes for the business.
Diaxion’s discovery and analysis allowed the provider to realise multiple benefits including:
Document detailed asset and service information to allow the business to identify which applications would be migrated, which would need to be replaced and which could be retired.
Provide detailed information on current state to enable the sizing of the target state with a high degree of confidence for realistic and meaningful consolidation ratios with tangible savings for infrastructure acquisition costs.
Advise the organisation on governance, structure and approaches based on Diaxion’s extensive experience with data centre migrations to allow the project to address future schedule and funding constraints.
Commence work on migration strategy planning.
Diaxion’s proven experience and methods had immediate impact for the provider in terms of cost reductions via detailed asset state and discovery. Deeper analysis and advice allowed the provider to more easily identify consolidation opportunities and reduce the required amount of infrastructure in the new environments.
